About Blaine Filthaut
Self taught artist
Originally from the prairies, my travels in life have taken me through the art rich community of Montreal, Canada, Florida for over 10 years and finally moveing back to my home town Maple Creek, Saskatchewan in 2011. Painting is a passion of my creative side and the drive to learn has taken my art into a full time career. My primary focus has been to capture feeling, color and depth and in this regard I have been influenced by the Masters and the Group of Seven. I have followed the techniques of Stepehn Quiller, a master of color and studied the theories of Alberti and other sources such at the Metropolitain Museum of Arts teachings for structural technique.
Each painting has a purpose or meaning, be it to catch the feeling of a certain scene or simply caputre the depth in structure and color in a way that draws one into the painting. My initial media was Watercolor, however, in the past few years I have focused on Oil and the mixing of my own paint from pigment for true vibrant color.
In returning to my roots of small prairie town Maple Creek,Saskatchewan, the focus of my paintings has changed from the floral rich colors of Florida to the vast skies and extended views of the flowing prairies. Maple Creek's logo is "Where Past Meets Present" and in this respect, life in the prairies connects with my direction in technique.
